Colorado River

The Colorado River encompasses extremes in climates, landscapes, and communities as it flows from its headwaters in the mountains of Colorado and Wyoming to its mouth at the Gulf of California. As the primary river in this arid landscape, it is vital to the survival of diverse, international communities and ecosystems both within its drainage basin and beyond it. Current and future generations will be faced with challenging decisions regarding the management of this complex river system in order to balance the water needs of all users and protect the natural environment.

The Discover a Watershed: The Colorado River project offers educational opportunities for anyone interested in this important bi-national river and its vast drainage basin.
